the Journey
With six years of experience in agile software development and the prior decade spent as a professional music director, audio producer, and performer-composer, Tyler offers a diverse set of technical and interpersonal skills, a keen sense of creativity, and a strong commitment to excellence. He is excited about roles where he get to wear multiple hats and collaborate with others on a variety of different projects across the entire stack.
Before transitioning into software development, Tyler spent over a decade as a professional music director, producer, pianist, and composer, which took them to over fifty countries across six continents. Software engineering first piqued his curiosity while working as the audio engineer/producer for Lumos Labs’s meditation app, Lumosity Mind. He was encouraged to get involved with other aspects of the product and actively sought opportunities to collaborate with engineering teammates to develop internal production tools while also spending nights and weekends self-studying to build a stronger programming foundation.
After two years of work, Lumos shifted its product direction and the Lumosity Mind team was inauspiciously laid off at the end of 2019, so Tyler embarked on a journey of self-studying software engineering and computer science during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. With this foundation, he subsequently enrolled at Oregon State University, where he completed a B.S. in Computer Science in December 2023, and completed four different internships along the way, gaining invaluable hands-on experience with various aspects of software development. During these internships, they worked on a wide range of projects, including building API endpoints, ERP connectors, and CI pipelines at Lockstep, and contributed to firmware, full stack, and internal tools features at Cisco Meraki.
This multi-faceted background has equipped Tyler with a valuable blend of creativity, adaptability, and technical skills that allow them to excel in collaborative environments, leveraging excellent cross-functional communication skills to drive projects to completion. Armed with four years of accumulated knowledge and experience (and one shiny piece of paper!), Tyler is actively pursuing interesting new opportunities as a full-time developer!
